Congratulations, you’re almost there! This has been one of the longest, most rewarding journeys of your life.
In just a short while, your bundle will arrive; in the meantime, here is a checklist of some things to keep in mind to ensure a happy, healthy third trimester:
_____ Drink lots of water and keep up good, healthy eating habits.
_____ Gently stretch and walk daily. A nice relaxing swim is great too.
_____ Get comfortable and familiar with normal signs of labor so you can read your body when its your time.
_____ Reduce your risk of episiotomy or severe tears by beginning perineal massage by week 36 or earlier.
_____ Prepare meals and freeze them. Better yet, have someone do it for you.
_____ Make sure all your hospital arrangements are in place.
_____ Carry your spouse, doctor’s, friend’s or emergency contact’s numbers with you at all times.
_____ Keep appointments with your doctor. You will probably be going about every 2 weeks now and you want to make sure everything is as it should be.
_____ Think about whether or not you’re going to breastfeed. Take a breastfeeding class to find out more.
_____ Read a good book!
_____ Start working on your birth plan and talk about it with your doctor.
_____ Tour your birth unit or hospital and ask any questions you might have. If you’re delivering at home, ask the midwife or dula anything you need to.
_____ Make sure you have an emergency childcare plan in place if you have other younger children.
_____ Pack your bag for the hospital and leave it next to the bed.
_____ Have your spouse, neighbor and you all test drive the route to the hospital.
