Holiday Diaper Cakes

We are happy to announce our collection of  holiday diaper cakes for 2009.  This year we are offering 4 new designs that are perfect for welcoming the new December baby home.  Our first selection is our Holiday Snow Girl 4 Tier Diaper Cake.  This design draws upon a winter snowman theme with pink accents.  Our second design is the Holiday Snowflake 3 Tier Diaper Cake.  This design uses silver and whites to create a gender neutral baby diaper cake.  The third design is our Holiday Gingerbread 3 Tier Diaper Cake.  This design is also gender neutral and obviously uses the gingerbread house as a theme.  I really like the colors of this cake as it came together in a way that is looks good enough to eat!  Our last design is the companion cake to Holiday Snow Girl called Holiday Snowman 4 Tier Diaper Cake.   This design uses blues so that you can select this for the new baby boy.

I  hope you enjoy these selections and consider one of them as a baby gift to welcome a new baby home in December.

Wishing you a happy holiday season.

Being thankful……

It’s the beginning of November and it’s the month most of us think of Thanksgiving. Yes, we think of the turkey, pumpkin pies, and football but we also reflect over the past year of family, health, and opportunities that have come our way.

Today, I am reflecting on the year at Lil’ Baby Cakes and though I have many wonderful experiences this year I’m struggling for giving “thanks” to certain events.

I’m having a hard time being thankful for individuals who copy my diaper cake designs from our website and actually post them on their site. Since I only design diaper cakes for my site, I can’t believe people would create a site using my pictures. For these copycats I am not thankful.  However, I am thankful for the honest people who notify me when they see my items elsewhere so I can take action.

This year, I have found someone who copied testimonials from our site and published them on their own site. They didn’t even change the name of my diaper cakes mentioned in the testimonial-only my customer’s name.  For this situation, I am not thankful. On the other hand, I am thankful for the wonderful customers of Lil’ Baby Cakes who spend the time to write me about their experience with our service and product.

This year I designed 25 new diaper cake selections to bring to the market. I spend hours looking through manufacturer ribbon samples and naming my cakes. Regretfully, I found another business that likes to take my ribbon selections and then make a diaper cake using the same ribbon in another color. I also, enjoy creating names for my cakes to bring personality to the designs.  Well guess what?  I have found if I name a diaper cake XY someone is going to call their design YX. Though neither one of these issues breaks the law, I am not thankful for this situation.

It has gotten so crazy that if I choose a background for my cake pictures that gets copied also.  Many of you may remember our diaper cakes were pictured with a black background now they are featured with a green hue. For those people who prefer to copy my backgrounds or website layout, I am not thankful. Should I be thankful that they think so highly of me to copycat?

Though the items I mentioned may be trivial to you, it tends to tug on my view of hardworking and ethical people. What are the qualities that I want to use to live my life and run my business?  I want to be a good and guiding parent, a loving and supportive spouse, and an honorable business owner with high standards of creativity, offering quality products and services.

I wish all of you a month of reflection about your life and experiences. I strive to use each and every day as an opportunity to offer the world the best I can be. Finally, I am thankful that God took the time to make each of us unique and not a copy of something he saw elsewhere.

October 2009 Halloween Diaper Cake of the Month

Our Lil' Pumpkin Diaper Cake

Yeah it’s candy season! I loved watching my children get excited about what they were going to be for Halloween and the family party we planned. I can’t wait to check out the magazines that are published with all sorts of yummy goodies which are to look like scary items. Let’s just say I love the 20 pounds of sugar this month brings :-).

Our Halloween diaper cake of the month is called Our Lil’ Pumpkin Diaper Cake. This design still offers mom and dad Pamper Swaddlers for the new little one – and this new baby is definitely sweeter than sugar. As you can tell, I dressed up Brighton the bear with a Halloween onesie. I say you can always dress up a bear for any ocassion.

I hope you enjoy the month, enjoy the little kids that dress up, and especially enjoy all the miniature size candy bars you can stuff yourself with……HAPPY HALLOWEEN…..

As always, I welcome your comments.

Best wishes,  Candy

How to Pick A Baby Name

Micheal? Gabriel? Nathan? David? How does one pick from the thousands of names to choose just one for their baby? Picking a name for your baby is not an easy task by. Many parents go back and forth between names while some are never able to come up with that name that they absolutely fall in love with. As your due date starts drawing closer, sooner or later you are going to have to make up you mind and pick a name for your son or daughter.

If you are having trouble picking out a name for your baby, here are some helpful tips that I came up with to help you find a name that you will love, and hopefully your child will love too!

The sooner that you start discussing names with your partner, the better chance you have at choosing a name before baby arrives. Although, some people prefer to have two or three names picked out and then decide when baby is born which one suits the baby best. This is an option for some people, but most parents like to be prepared with a name before heading off to the hospital.

Besides the all-encompassing baby books, there are some other ways to pick a baby name. Look towards any relatives or family members that you may want to honor with your baby’s name. This could be a first name or a middle name. Don’t feel pressured though, by other family members to name your daughter after your Great Grandma Mildred, as you have to remember that your child has to live with this name for the rest of their life.

If you are going to use baby books or websites to pick a baby name, then there are some things to remember. The first is that the name should flow well and be compatible. If you happen to have a last name that does not sound good with a lot of different first names, then this may be a little harder for you. On the other hand, if you have a very common and compatible name like Smith, you may have too many options to choose from.  According to the social security adminstration, here are the top 10 baby names for boys and girls in 2008.

Top 10 Girl Names for 2008

Also, when you do finally pick out a name for your baby, be sure to check out what the initials are for the whole name. Remember that kids, and even some adults, can be cruel and you don’t want your child being the brunt of jokes because of their name or initials.

Although picking out a baby name can seem stressful, it should be a joyful time with you and your partner deciding on a name together.

How to Buy a Diaper Cake

I have put together a video buyer’s guide entitled “How to Buy a Diaper Cake”.  I did this to create a standalone guide that would help people who are beginning their baby diaper cake  or baby gift buying process.  In the video I start with a basic definition about what a diaper cake is.  We still get emails and phone calls from people innocently asking how many people does of our our newborn diaper cakes feed.  Or another popular question  is:   “Do I have to refrigerate a diaper cake?”  We don’t mind responding to these questions, I attribute them to folks not really knowing about diaper cakes and how they are used as baby shower centerpieces or for baby gift giving.

I continue on to discuss the types of diaper cakes (layered and folded) as well as a discussion about diapers that are used to make them.  Even though I am showing our diaper cakes in the video, the video is not a sales pitch for Lil’ Baby Cakes.  Instead, I offer what I feel are practical considerations when buying a newborn diaper cake along with shopping tips about shipping, site security, and diaper cake customization.  There are many styles of baby shower diaper cakes and many different places they can be purchased.  I also mention eco friendly diaper cakes and diaper cakes made with printed diapers to show the difference between those diapers and Pampers from an appearance perspective.

I hope you find the video instructive.  Your comments are appreciated and are welcomed.  Don’t hesitate to contact us at for assistance on any baby diaper cake question.
