Facts About February Born Babies

Introduction to the February Baby

In this article, we explore fun facts about February babies. A February birth month also offers the opportunity of being born under two different zodiac signs:  Aquarius and Pisces.  As a month full of special holidays and events, newborns will have Valentine's Day (February 14th) and Presidents Day (February 15th) in their birth month.

February is also a month with a leap year. The article explains the reasoning behind this date and significance for baby's born on that date.

Lastly, some traits associated with February born babies are discussed. What's fact and fiction? Read on to find out.

History of February

For all you February babies, the Latin for your month is februum, which is translated as "purification." This is due to a purification ritual that was held in Roman times on the 15th of the month, always on a full moon. Some of the events around the world shared with babies born in February are Black History Month, the Chinese New Year, and of course our favorite: Valentine's Day.

February Birthstone, Flower, and Valentines Day

A February Baby's Birthstone is the Amethyst

February babies are lucky to have the beautiful amethyst as their birthstone. This stunning gemstone is a purple variety of quartz. In the Christian faith, purple is the color for the season of Lent, which makes sense because Lent usually begins in February.

The amethyst has also been treasured for centuries as a symbol of protection, courage, and wisdom. This birthstone is also believed to bring serenity and calmness, a welcome blessing for the new family when the baby arrives.

Babies with a February Birth Month Share these Notable Days

There are several celebratory days in the second month of the year; the most well-known, of course, is Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th) and Groundhog Day (Feb. 2nd). On Groundhog Day, thousands of people gather in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to see if the groundhog produces a shadow when he crawls out of his hole. For some reason, people believe that if he does produce a shadow, there will be six more months of winter. Go figure.

Lastly, there is President's Day, which actually is not tied to a specific calendar date but rather aligned to the third Monday in February. Pancake Day, Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras are all events that normally fall in February but sometimes end up in March. February is also the national cherry and chocolate month.

February Babies have two Birth Flowers

The birth flower is the primrose, although some would disagree and say it is the violet. The primrose is an elegant symbol of young love, representing optimism and gratitude for life's simple pleasures.

Meanwhile, the violet—which comes in shades of purple, blue, and white—embodies determination and faithfulness. Together, these two blooms offer reassurance in challenging times while celebrating the joys of life.

February Babies' Horoscope Sign is Aquarius or Pisces

The Zodiac sign for February is Aquarius until mid-month, on the 18th, when it changes to Pisces. For Aquarians, this sign literally means "water carrier" and it is the eleventh astrological sign of the Zodiac.

Babies born in the first 18 days of February possess strong and attractive personalities. Buying books on strong-willed children might help you understand your little Aquarian. These February babies can grow into individuals who are frank, speak their minds, and are very self-assertive.

The Pisces, on the other hand, are very compassionate, selfless, and sympathetic. Pisces means "circle of life" and is the twelfth astrological sign of the zodiac. Two fish are the symbols for this sign; they are more weak-willed and easily led. There is quite a difference between the two zodiac signs of February-born kids.

Your Newborn's Birthday Might Only Come Once Every Four Years

Every four years, February is extended by one day to make up for the small differences in our calendar and the Earth's orbit around the sun. This extra day is called Leap Day. This day is necessary to ensure that our calendar doesn't drift off track over time.

Leap day helps keep the seasons in sync and reminds us of how precisely nature functions. Babies born on February 29th have unique birthdays. This extra day allows for those born on February 29th to celebrate their birthdays once every four years, a phenomenon often referred to as 'leaplings'. This means there are many opportunities to get creative with celebrations around the theme of "leap" or "leaping."

Winter Babies Can be More Comfortable for the Pregnant Mom

In many parts of the United States, February means cold and wintry weather. Winter can be a great time to have a baby, and February is no exception. In many US states, winter offers expectant mothers an opportunity to stay cool and refreshed instead of hot and sweaty like those humid summer months.

Personality Traits Around February Babies

While not necessarily backed by science there is some research that warrants mentioning. A February baby is believed to possess strong leadership qualities, creativity, and a passion for making a difference. Scientists think that winter babies may have increased levels of certain chemicals within their brains, such as serotonin and dopamine, which helps them to remain calmer.

February Babies are Less Likely to be Irritable

Researchers have found a February baby is less likely to be irritable than those born in summer. This is because the seasons can affect certain chemicals in the brain that control how we feel. For example, winter babies may have more serotonin and dopamine which helps them stay calmer.

Are February kids STRONGER and TALLER?

Contrary to some beliefs, studies have shown inconclusive results between a baby's birthday month and their eventual strength or height. This implies that on average, people who are born in February are statistically not any taller or stronger than those born in other months.

Some research, however, claims a baby's length at birth has a stronger correlation to their eventual adult height. Seems to make sense.

Further, when a baby's measured height and weight fall into the higher percentile range compared to average, there is a higher probably the baby could grow into an overweight adult. Environmental factors such as diet and exercise probably have a bigger effect on a person's future weight and strength.

What's the Most Popular Birth Day in February?

February Calendar Showing Births by Day

According to data compiled by FiveThirtyEight, February 14th represents the most popular day for a February baby to be born. The least popular day is February 29th, primarily because it is leap day and only occurs every four years.

Summary About February Born Babies

It's important to remember that February's astrological signs, birthstones, and birth flowers are symbolic and do not necessarily reflect the personality or characteristics of an individual. Each person is unique and should not be judged or generalized based on their month of birth.

While there may be trends or patterns that emerge, it is not accurate or fair to make assumptions about an individual based solely on their month of birth, their birth length and height.

Every baby will grow into their own individual self, with their own unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses—that's what makes us all special.
